I run barefoot. I can't always be shoeless. That's where Vivobarefoot comes in. I have 4 pairs of Evo II that I rotate between. One pair was decimated at a color run but the other 3 are in good rotation. So far I have run three 1/2 marathons in these shoes and trained for weeks upon weeks.
I could offer advice on minimalist running, but really you should start slow and figure it out. As for the shoes, 2 of my 4 pairs rubbed a little along the top of the big toe at first. Adjust the laces and look for seams awry. I run without the insole. The shoes are flexible and allow for great ground feel. I have wide feet and the toebox in these really allow my foot to spread and my toes never feel cramped.
The laces on the Aubergine (and the crimson) are not as good as the laces on the Navy ones for some reason. They come untied often. I grabbed a lace lock to use. I often run in rain. The shoes can get a bit stinky with no sock and lots of rain use, but stuffits take care of the extra moisture.
Before VivoBarefoot, I tried the Vibram Fivefingers and some Nike Free. The VivoBarefoot won me over and I hope to never run in anything ever again.
